Planning your attack

Ok, so let's get started. I know from previous experience that Chief Hawkwinds mother is close to an area I can get plainstrider meat and feathers from. Head out in an south-easterly direction from the camp to get started. You will soon run across lots of plainstriders. We're going to need to kill these to get our feathers and meat.

To kill them we are going to use our Wrath spell and our Staff. To get the most out of the Wrath spell you need to start attacking from a distance. Find a suitable plainstrider and target him by clicking on him. You want to be about 30 yards from him when you start attacking. 30 yards is the maximum range of the Wrath spell. Since we don't have any indication of how far that is in the game you need to use your best judgement. There is one trick you can use though.

While you have a target selected take a look at your Wrath spell on your action bar. If you are within range of the target (30 yards or less) then the number on the spell will be white. If you are out of range then it will be red. While you have a plainstrider targeted run about a bit and see how this works. I've shown examples in the screenshots below. You want to start attacking while the number is white and just before it turns red. Over time you will get a feel for how far you need to stand away from the target.

The plan for taking down this plainstrider is to cast up to three Wrath spells on him and then finish him off with your staff. If you are at maximum range and you have full mana then you should be able to get three Wrath spells cast before he gets to you. Then you will rely on your staff to finish the job and possibly your healing spell to keep you alive.

Walk about till you are at maximum range and begin casting Wrath. When you cast it you will see a progress bar on the screen showing you how long it will take you to finish casting. As soon as the first spell is cast press the Wrath spell button again to being casting another. As soon as that one is finished cast it again. By now the plainstrider should be on top of you and hitting you but you will have damaged him substantially. Hit the attack button, the first button on your action bar, to begin hitting him with your staff.

You could of course keep casting Wrath on him while he is up close. However, when you have an enemy attacking you your spells get interrupted and take longer to cast and will therefore be less effective. Attacking with a weapon does not get interrupted. Also, your mana will not begin to regenerate until five seconds after you cast your last spell. You want to get mana regeneration started as soon as possible so that you do not have to wait as long after each fight before starting another one. You should aim to start each fight at this level with close to maximum mana. After each fight you can take a drink, if you have any, to speed up mana regeneration.
